Impressions vs Reach: How Well Do You Know Engagement Terms?

In today's world where news, marketing, and sales are largely driven by social media, the majority of small business owners are doing everything they can to increase and influence customers and potential customers via social media. But, to run successful marketing campaigns, it's important for business owners to understand the terminology associated with measuring metrics on the various social media platforms.

Vital Question: Do you know the difference between REACH and IMPRESSIONS?

When checking metrics provided by social media sites and apps (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc.), you will commonly come across both terms so it's important that you understand the difference between them and why they're crucial to accurately measuring metrics. Once you understand the metrics, you'll be able to modify your online marketing campaigns for better and more targeted results.

Terminology

Reach: The total number of people who see your posts/content.

Impressions: The number of times your content is displayed to users in a News Feed, on your Page, or shared by others on their Pages.

Though they are similar, the distinction is important to the success of your marketing campaigns and understanding your reported metrics. Basically, reach is the total number of people who saw your content, while impressions are the total number of times your content was displayed to people.

For example, if 10 Facebook fans each saw your post three times (once on your company update post and from two friends who each shared your post), the metrics report would show 30 impressions (number of people who saw it multiplied by the number of times it was presented) and a reach of 10.
