5 Tips to Keep Your Website Relevant

Many business owners think that they need to create a whole new website every year or so to keep it relevant and fresh. This is simply not the case. Once you have a solid website design that works well for your business needs and customers, there are a multitude of things that you can do to ensure your website is relevant. The list below is just a sampling of ideas and tips to consider.

  • Create a responsive website. A responsive web design means that it works and looks good on all internet-capable devices, including computers, smart phones, and tablets. In today’s world, most people use their phone to search and browse the internet…and if your website is not compatible with the size of a cell phone, visitors will quickly leave your site and likely won’t return.
  • Track your numbers. This is vital to knowing what your readers and visitors care about. Then, even more importantly, you need to WRITE MORE ON THESE TOPICS. The best way to keep and gain customers is to give them what they’re looking for. Establish yourself as an expert and provide a steady stream of relevant information.
  • Update the header and other images on your website regularly, every few months or so. Most website designs now have a large header image on at least the home page, if not every page. Use these images to showcase what you have to offer customers and change them frequently to engage interest.
  • How are you different? Focus on what makes you unique and the benefits you offer over your competitors. Emphasize this information in your content, headings, etc. It’s not enough to simply state that you offer a particular service, you need to demonstrate how choosing you is to their benefit.
  • Update testimonials. Many visitors check out testimonials and if there haven’t been any in the last 6 months or so, that could negatively affect your bottom line. Be sure to change these out with new testimonials regularly. New customers want to know about others’ experiences with your business last week, last month—not last year.
  • Add blog content regularly. If you have a blog, keep it updated regularly and write about topics important to your customers. If someone asks you specific questions over the phone, in your store, or via email, chances are other customers have the same questions but simply have not voiced them. Proactively answering questions will gain you loyal readers and repeat customers.
